In a letter to Bono - the frontman of famed Irish band U2 - Marzec said: “Your knowledge on [this] subject must be based on a rather questionable source and is far from the truth.”
The Polish MP added: “Both as a musician and a Polish MP I would like to invite you to Warsaw to discuss the subject you brought up in your speech and see for yourself the current vibe of Poland.”
The letter is a response to recent remarks by Bono, who in a speech in the US Congress on April 12 said that members of congress “should be very nervous” about countries such as Poland and Hungary turning towards what he called “hyper-nationalism.”
Marzec is a member of the Kukiz' 15 parliamentary opposition grouping – led by veteran rock star Paweł Kukiz – that has been vocal of late in opposing Poland's prospective provision of asylum to refugees. (tf/pk)
