The agreement provides for cooperation in the protection of diplomatic posts in Iraq and the training of security agents.

The head of BOR Brigadier-General Marian Janicki explained that Polish agents carry out activities in Iraq, where there are no Polish troops.

‘We would like our American partners to help us in high-risk situations, as the assassination attempt on the Polish Ambassador General Edward Pietrzyk in which one Polish security officer was killed and three others suffered injuries,” he said.

The Polish-US agreement is one of numerous events marking anniversary of the setting up of the bureau following Poland regaining independence following WW I.

BOR was formed in June 1924. The decision to set up such the unit was taken after the assassination of President Gabriel Narutowicz in December 1922. The activities of the Government Protection Bureau focus on the tactical planning of VIP protection, intelligence gathering and analysis and prevention of potential threats. (mk/pg)
