The details of six Polish nationals were handed over to authorities from the Netherlands and France, whose armies were evacuating the Dutch-French Caribbean island of Saint-Martin.
Millions of homes were cut off from the power grid and coastal areas were flooded when category-four Irma reached Florida on Sunday night.
But the scale of destruction caused by the 150 kilometre-per-hour winds was significantly less than in the Caribbean, which was hit first. (vb/pk)
