Polish President Andrzej Duda has sent a message of condolence to US leader Donald Trump after at least 59 people were killed and more than 500 others injured in a mass shooting in Las Vegas, the deadliest such event in modern US history.

“Following the dramatic developments in Las Vegas, where a madman caused death of tens of people, injuring hundreds of others, on behalf of the Polish Nation and on my own behalf, I wish to offer into your hands, Sir, our deepest condolences,” Duda said in the message, which was posted on his website on Monday.
He added: “The death of so many innocent people inspires in us a profound sense of grief but also meets with our resolute and unequivocal objection. In the face of this barbarous act of terror, we remain in solidarity with the American People, sharing the sentiments of pain and despair, offering our prayers together with the bereaved families, and wishing a quick recovery to all the wounded.”
A lone gunman on Sunday night unleashed a barrage of fire from a hotel room on a crowd of about 22,000 people gathered for a country music festival in Las Vegas. The gunman was later found dead at the scene by law enforcers. His motives were not immediately known.
The death toll of the attack was feared to rise as many of the victims were seriously wounded.
