Polish, Spanish PMs discuss Catalonia crisis, posted workers: spokesman

The Polish and Spanish prime ministers have held talks about an independence referendum in Catalonia and the controversial issue of so-called posted workers, the Polish government spokesman has said.

The main topic of Wednesday’s phone conversation between Poland’s Beata Szydło and Spain’s Mariano Rajoy was the situation in Spain after the contested vote in Catalonia, Rafał Bochenek said.
He added: "We hope that through consensus it will be possible to work out solutions to help stabilise the situation" in Spain.
Posted workers
Szydło and Rajoy also discussed the problem of so-called posted workers amid proposals to change EU regulations in this area, according to Bochenek.
"Specifically, this concerns proposals that France wants to introduce," Bochenek told reporters, adding that “Poland and Spain are working together in this area.”
The Polish government has opposed a push by French President Emmanuel Macron for rules under which companies would be required to pay "posted" and local workers the same wages.
Poland has said this would hit its transport industry, making its truck drivers lose their edge in western European markets.
