Polish FM set for trip to Azerbaijan, Georgia, Armenia

Polish Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski was on Tuesday to fly out on a three-day trip to Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia.

Waszczykowski was to hold talks focusing on bilateral relations between Poland and each of the three countries, on economic cooperation and security.
His trip comes several weeks ahead of an Eastern Partnership summit in Brussels in November.
The Partnership, an initiative by Poland and Sweden, was launched in 2009 to forge closer political and economic ties between the EU and its eastern neighbours.
However, for the past four years Armenia and Azerbaijan, which are former Soviet republics, have increasingly been turning to Russia, Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.
In April, the foreign ministers of the Visegrad Group countries, which groups Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic, voiced “strong support” for the Eastern Partnership, which they said was key to stability and economic growth in Eastern Europe.
