Planned Norway-Poland gas pipeline route examined

Specialised ships are examining the possible route of the Baltic Pipe, a planned pipeline to supply gas from Norway to Poland, Poland's PAP news agency reported on Monday.

Piotr Naimski, the Polish government’s pointman on “strategic energy infrastructure,” told a news conference in Warsaw that the ships are gathering data for an environmental report that is needed to go ahead with the construction project.
Once built and put into operation, the Baltic Pipe would be part of the so-called Northern Corridor project, which aims to diversify gas supplies by connecting the Polish gas system with deposits in the North Sea.
The 230-kilometre pipeline would supply gas to Poland from Norway via Denmark.
The Baltic Pipe is expected to be up and running in five to six years, Polish Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski said after talks with his Norwegian counterpart in February.
