Polish Health Minister Łukasz Szumowski and US Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar inked the agreement in Washington on Friday, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.
It quoted Poland’s Szumowski as saying that the memorandum of understanding provided a basis for closer collaboration between specific research and medical institutions in both countries.
The agreement will make it possible to bring the most innovative treatments to Polish patients suffering from illnesses such as cancer, heart problems and infectious diseases, Szumowski said, as cited by IAR.
America’s Azar said in a tweet that the memorandum of understanding “will deepen the already strong ties” between Poland and the United States and “support cooperation between our countries in health and medical sciences.”
The upper house of Poland’s parliament on Friday approved a plan to increase healthcare expenditure in Poland to at least 6 percent of GDP by 2024, from no less than 4.78 percent of GDP this year.
