A Polish Euro deputy has called for an explanation after an advisor to EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini appeared on Russian broadcaster RT.

In a letter to Mogherini, Anna Fotyga, a conservative former Polish foreign minister, said she was shocked that the advisor appeared earlier this month on what has been frequently criticised as a propaganda outlet for the Kremlin, Poland’s national news agency PAP reported.
The European Commission said that the advisor, Nathalie Tocci, had been speaking in her own name and did not represent the views of the European Union, according to PAP.
The news agency said that Fotyga told Mogherini in her letter that Russian propaganda homes in on issues that divide the EU and make the bloc look weak.
Fotyga was cited by PAP as saying that the appearance of Mogherini’s advisor on RT strengthens Moscow’s narrative and lends credibility to the Kremlin’s propaganda tools.
Fotyga said last month that Russia was leading a disinformation campaign in the run-up to European Parliament elections.
