The congress is one of the major events organized by Poland’s six-month EU presidency, which began on 1 July.
Nearly 7,000 delegates from Poland and abroad convened in the centrally located Palace of Culture and Science to talk about issues important not only for women.
Among issues raised were domestic violence, nursery provision and the glass ceiling for women in large corporations.
On the agenda of the forum was also a round-table meeting of ministers for gender equality in the labour market, attended by European Commission vice-president and Commissioner for Justice, Fundamental Rights and Citizenship Viviane Reding.
Jolanta Fedak, Poland’s minister of labour and social policy as well as EU ministers of labour, social policy and gender equality participated in the congress. (pg/di)
