The five-day “Reconciliation and Remembrance” seminar in the Polish village of Krzyżowa has been organised by the Polish foreign ministry, the German embassy in Warsaw, and the Krzyżowa Foundation for Mutual Understanding in Europe, according to the Polish foreign ministry.

Students and recent graduates from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, and Serbia are staying in Poland until Friday for meetings with Polish and German peers, the Polish foreign ministry said on its website.

The seminar includes a visit to the former German Nazi concentration camp of Gross-Rosen and lectures on Polish-German reconciliation, the ministry added.

Krzyżowa is a village in south-western Poland, where Polish and German leaders held a symbolic reconciliation meeting in 1989 after the fall of communism in Eastern Europe.

Both “Poland and Germany support the Western Balkans on their path to European integration, which includes such important elements as building good neighbourly relations and fostering regional cooperation,” the Polish foreign ministry said. (gs/pk)
