The Founding Fathers of the EU display in the centre of the Polish capital aims to inform the public about the ideas and visions that lay at the foundation of the European community decades ago, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.

The exhibition’s curator, Michał Łuczewski, told the news agency the project sought to show that the road leading to the emergence of the European Union has been an “amazing adventure”—with a “clash of spirit" that brought together some very different people—rather than “just a bureaucratic exercise.”

The Warsaw exhibition, an initiative by the government-run National Centre for Culture (NCK), runs until May 24 at a site along the city’s landmark Krakowskie Przedmieście Street near the country’s culture ministry.

From April 30 to May 6, the exhibition will also be put on display at an entrance to the city’s Royal Łazienki Park.

The show comes as part of a string of celebrations that will be held in Warsaw this week to mark the 15th anniversary of Poland joining the European Union.

Poland became a member of the EU on May 1, 2004, a historic step that underlined the country’s re-alignment with the West after decades of communist rule.
