A graphic novel based on accounts of survivors of the Majdanek German Nazi death camp has been published to mark the anniversary of a museum on the site of the former camp.

The book, entitled Chleb Wolnościowy (Bread of Freedom), was created by Polish graphic artist Paweł Piechnik and was launched on May 11 to mark 75 years since the Majdanek State Museum was established.
“The book contains 11 testimonies that I illustrated and not a single word that is mine,” Piechnik said. “All the text found here comes from former prisoners.”
The Nazi concentration camp of Majdanek, known as Konzentrationslager Lublin, existed in German-occupied eastern Poland between October 1941 and July 1944. It was one of the first concentration camps to be liberated by Allied forces during World War II.
Around 80,000 people, most of them Jews, lost their lives at the camp.
