Polish writer fails to pull off Booker Int'l Prize double

Polish writer Olga Tokarczuk has failed to win this year’s Man Booker International Prize.

Such a feat would have been a historic double after Tokarczuk last year won the prestigious literary award for her novel Flights.
The prize for 2019 was on Tuesday evening won by Jokha Alharthi, the first Omani woman novelist to be translated into English, for her book Celestial Bodies.
Tokarczuk’s Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead, translated into English by Antonia Lloyd-Jones, had been shortlisted for this year’s award.
The novel was first published in Poland in 2009. It was adapted for the silver screen in 2017 by Polish filmmakers Agnieszka Holland and Kasia Adamik under the title Spoor.
The Man Booker International Prize is an international literary award hosted in the United Kingdom. Since 2016, it has been given annually to a single book in English translation.
