The 3rd edition of the Wroclaw Global Forum opened in the capital of Lower Silesia, Thursday.

The three day trans-Atlantic event has brought together politicians and experts to tackle problems of the contemporary world and Europe.

One of the principal organisers of the forum is the Atlantic Council. Its director Frederic Kempe said the present conference will be a continuation of discussions initiated during the latest NATO summit in Chicago.

Economic topics shall also feature prominently as well as problems relating to the situation in Ukraine, the head of the Atlantic Council told reporters in Wroclaw.

The Wroclaw Global Forum has gathered politicians from many countries. One of the speakers at this year’s meeting is Hanna Herman, advisor to Ukrainian president Victor Yanukovych, also EU Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy Stafan Fule, former German president Horst Kohler or the world boxing champion and Ukrainian opposition campaigner Vitaliy Klichko.

On Friday, special Atlantic Council Freedom Awards shall be granted to persons with oustanding contribution to peace and democracy.

The Wroclaw Global Forum ends on Saturday with a panel hosted by British historian Norman Davies. (ss/jb)
