Polish horse meat turns up in Swedish ready meals?

The Swedish Gunnar Dafgards AB producer of ready meals has withdrawn beef products from shops after it says meat from a supplier in Poland was found to contain horse DNA.

After 1000 laboratory tests, 12 lines were withdrawn from stores in Sweden on Monday by Gunnar Dafgards AB, who also supplies meat balls to IKEA, the furniture giant who withdrew the product from its stores in the Czech Republic after it was found that horse DNA had been detected in the meals.
"We've traced the horsemeat to a Swedish supplier who had contracted with two Polish slaughterhouses," Ola Larsson, spokesman for Dafgård, told The Local (UK).
IKEA in Poland also stopped using meat from a Polish supplier in Radom, central Poland, last week on fears that meat from the plant contained horse DNA.
In late February, Poland's Deputy National Veterinarian Janusz Zwiazek said horse DNA was found in three samples out of 121 tested at three slaughterhouses. The meat arrived there from various suppliers in Poland and abroad, including from the Netherlands, he said. (pg)
