Bond to sip Poland's Belvedere Vodka in 'Spectre'

“James Bond is recognised as the most admired and influential taste-maker in the world,'' commented Charles Gibb, president of Belvedere Vodka.

''We’re delighted that Belvedere will be partnering with Spectre, our largest global partnership to date.

“I think it’s a real statement about authenticity, heritage, a desire to have a vodka with character, with heritage, with substance behind it,'' he said.

According to the company, limited edition bottles are also being rustled up.

One version will see the time-honoured label depicting the Belvedere Palace in Warsaw (Belweder), a residence of the president of Poland, replaced by the MI6 headquarters in London.

A range of other Bond-related promotions is also in the pipeline, according to the vodka firm.

Belvedere Vodka is made at Zyrardow, near Warsaw, at a distillery that was founded over a century ago.

However, the company is currently owned by luxury goods conglomerate LVMH, which has its headquarters in Paris.

Spectre is being directed by Sam Mendes, following on from his Bond debut Skyfall. Daniel Craig will reprise the title role.

Among the most intriguing Polish connections with Ian Fleming's immortal character is the theory that Casino Royal's seductive spy Vesper Lynd was based on Krystyna Skarbek, a famed WWII agent. However, claims that Fleming had a love affair with Skarbek appear to be exaggerated. (nh)
