Łódź-based independent videogame studio Wastelands has released a mobile application which allows Poles to release stress caused by a recent hike in the cost of servicing Swiss franc mortgages.

The app, called “Kill the Frank” is available on Android devices through the Google Play online store, and involves hitting the screen to try and reduce the PLN-CHF exchange rate.

According to the app’s producers, who also hold mortgages in Swiss francs, the game was produced to “help vent stress and frustration due to the latest events on the currency market, as well as provide some entertainment”.

The move comes as Poles holding mortgages in francs were hit in January when the Swiss central bank scrapped a cap on the CHF-EUR exchange rate, sending the złoty exchange rate to an all-time high.

Wastelands Interactive was set up in 2006 and specilises in strategy games, including “World War 2: Time of Wrath” and “Time of Fury”.

In 2013 the production studio managed to raise funds through crowdsourcing site Kickstarter for its fantasy game “Worlds of Magic”, totalling over PLN 300,000. (jb)
