Around 24,000 Poles have travelled to Asia and the Middle East over the past five years to escape autumn and winter weather at home, according to online travel agency eSky.

This is almost double the number seen in the preceding five years, eSky said.

The agency wrote in its report: “Although the autumn and winter season may seem to be the time that Poles chiefly head for skiing holidays, every year the number of tourists travelling to Asia is rising.”

The most visited Asian destination is Thailand, which accounts for 33.77 percent of Polish tourists to Asia. This is followed by China and the United Arab Emirates, accounting for 22.57 and 18.47 percent respectively.

Other popular destinations include Israel and India. Turkey has seen a decline in popularity among Polish travellers since 2012, when it was the most visited Asian destination.

According to the report, the overall increase in travel to Asia is due to “both better links to Asian destinations—with an ever increasing number of air connections and more attractive ticket prices—and the promotion of these destinations in the media.”
