Poles will be able to recover money that was mistakenly transferred to another bank account more easily under a new law signed on Friday by Polish President Andrzej Duda.

Formerly, it was an account holder's choice to return money received by mistake, because privacy regulations made it impossible for the bank to reveal their identity.
But the changes will allow banks to release the personal information of account holders who have mistakenly acquired money, which will enable a legal case to be made against them.
The law might be a small change but it could have a huge impact, Duda said.
The bill was Duda's initiative and it was unanimously backed by both the lower and upper houses of Poland's parliament.
The changes are expected to come into effect in about three months. (vb)
