Tour operators see rise in demand for summer packages

Polish tour operators are reporting a resurgence of interest in North African holiday destinations, with sales of package holidays overall up by at least ten percent compared to the same time last year.
“We sold 102,000 trips by the end of January,” Piotr Henicz, vice-director of Poland's largest travel agency Itaki has told the Rzeczpospolita daily.
“That's about 9,500 more than the same time last year, meaning an increase of sales of 10 percent,” he adds.
Particular favourites for summer packages are destinations in Croatia, Turkey, Greece – despite the finance crisis there – Bulgaria and Spain.
There has also been a return of interest in resorts in Egypt and Tunisia following the Arab Spring last year.
Last year the company sold in total around 400,000 packages: this year they expect over 500,000 holidays to be sold.
Radomir Swiderska, marketing director at Rainbow Tours also notes an increase in demand for holidays in North Africa.
“I am not surprised as you can get a good, cheap holiday there,” he said. (pg)
