The round table, specially designed for the celebrations, has been mounted in the square between the European Centre of Solidarity and the Monument to Shipyard Workers. The table is some 15 metres in diameter and can seat about a hundred people.
The launch of the celebrations was headed by Mayor of Gdańsk Aleksandra Dulkiewicz, who said she hoped that PM Mateusz Morawiecki and head of ruling Law and Justice Jarosław Kaczyński would also visit the round table, when they are in Gdańsk on Sunday to commemorate the historic visit of Pope John Paul 2nd 40 years ago.
Hundreds of events have been planned in Gdańsk for the 30th anniversary of the June 4th elections, including exhibitions, shows, debates, lectures, workshops and concerts, with a culmination on Tuesday with speeches by European Council chief Donald Tusk and former Solidarity leader Lech Wałęsa.
Festivities in Gdańsk continue until June 11th.
