Poland jumps to record-high spot in FIFA ranking

Poland’s national football squad has jumped up two spots to a record-high 12th place in a new ranking by FIFA, world football’s governing body.

Among teams outranked by Poland are England (14th), Italy (15th), Croatia (16th) and the Netherlands (21st).
The top 10 remains unchanged since the last ranking in February, with Argentina in the lead, followed by Brazil and Germany.
Poland ranks well above its rivals in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying round. Ranked 39th, Romania is Poland’s closest competition in the group, followed by Denmark (48th), Montenegro (64th), Armenia (85th) and Kazakhstan (94th).
Meanwhile, following the group's 12 qualifying matches so far, Poland is at the top of the leaderboard going into a match against Montenegro on 26 March. (vb)
