Tennis: Poland’s Hurkacz makes quarterfinals at Eastbourne

Polish tennis player Hubert Hurkacz has booked his place in the quarterfinals of the grass-court tournament in Eastbourne, southern England.

The 22-year-old Pole defeated Steve Johnson of the United States in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6, in their round-of-16 match at the Nature Valley International tournament on Wednesday.
Hurkacz on Monday saw off Italy’s Marco Cecchinato 6-4, 6-4 in the round of 32 of the Eastbourne tournament, which for many top tennis players is the final warm-up before Wimbledon.
The Polish player, who is world No. 52, was set to take on America's Taylor Fritz in a bid to make the semifinals of the men's singles at Eastbourne.
