Tennis: Poland’s Linette into 2nd round at Wimbledon

Poland’s Magda Linette has made it through to the second round of the Wimbledon tennis championships.

The 27-year-old Pole on Tuesday beat Russia’s Anna Kalinskaya 6-0, 7-6 in their first-round women's singles match at the grass-court Grand Slam tournament in the British capital.

Linette will on Thursday take on US player Amanda Anisimova.

Meanwhile, Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz made it through to the second round on Monday after beating Serbia’s Dušan Lajović, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 in the men's singles.

Poland’s Kamil Majchrzak crashed out of the men’s singles on Monday after losing to Spain’s Fernando Verdasco in straight sets, 4-6, 4-6, 4-6.

Rising Polish tennis star Iga Świątek was likewise eliminated from the Wimbledon women’s singles in the first round on Monday by Switzerland’s Viktorija Golubic 2-6, 6-7.
