Poland celebrates export increase. John Beauchamp reports.
Throughout 2012 Polish exports grew by 4.9 percent (a figure amounting to €6.8 billion), with last year’s export value 23.4 percent higher than in 2008.

As John Beauchamp reports, Poland may even have a surplus in foreign trade this year, Deputy Prime Minister and Economy Minister Janusz Piechocinski told the Polish Press Agency recently. If such a forecast did turn out to be true, it would be Poland’s first positive trade balance in recent history.
But while the number of Polish exports is undoubtedly on the up, what is the country doing in terms of promoting Polish goods and services on the global market?
“Clearly the government is trying to learn from some other countries that are very assertively pushing their economic interests, [but] probably there is a lot to learn still,” says Marcin Sobczyk, Acting Bureau Chief Central and Eastern Europe at The Wall Street Journal.
