In Europe, some 80 percent of animals bred for food are kept on industrial farms, and as Compassion in World Farming Polska underlines, Poland is catching up fast.
“In Poland, the biggest numbers for factory-farmed animals are chickens, which we have about 800 million each year,” Małgorzata Szadkowska, from the Compassion in World Farming Polska, told Alicja Baczyńska.
But intensive farming comes at a price, and it’s our health ─ not to mention animal welfare ─ the activist argues.
This week, the organization is launching its “Set the Rabbit Free” action to raise awareness about the 330 million rabbits slaughtered on industrial farms a year – the most often caged animals in the European Union.
