Almost 2,000 atlethes - including 50 athletes from Poland - participated in the games with Poland coming in sixth in the overall medal classification.
As you will hear in this report it was the first time that Poland had managed three gold medals at the championships. The result will undoubtedly boost the team's confidence ahead of the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro and that surprised even the chairman of the Polish Track and Field Association, Jerzy Skucha himself.
"I have to admit that when I was asked before the games how many medals Poland could win I thought that wining four would be deemed a very good performance there. Eight medals, including three gold and 13 spots in the final top eight in various disciplines. For sure Polish athletes have never done so well in the history of the world athletics championships," Skucha told Polish Radio.
