                    181 Polish athletes are  competing in the 29th Summer Universiade Games for university athletes which started in Taipei on Saturday.

                         The Polish national team includes 54 track-and-fielders, among them London world championship medallists Paweł Fajdek, Malwina Kopron, Iga Baumgart, Aleksandra Gaworska and Małgorzata Hołub. Also competing for medals in Taiwan will be 24 Polish fencers and 22 swimmers, among them Konrad Czerniak, Kacper Majchrzak and Alicja Tchórz. Poland is also fielding competitors in events such as badminton, gymnastics, golf, judo, basketball, archery, weightlifting, diving, taekwondo, tennis and table tennis.  Among the definite medal hopefuls is shotputter Konrad Bukowiecki who won gold at the European athletics U-23 championships in Bydgoszcz, northern Poland in July.  Danuta Isler spoke to the European indoor champion  asking him first why he chose the discipline.
