The term “new designer drugs” denotes products containing psychoactive substances that affect the central nervous system.
Research on such drugs in Poland has defined over 100 chemical compounds that they may contain. Designer drugs are sold as pills, powders, liquids but also as flavoured tobacco and in many other forms.
The relatively low cost of synthetic drugs compared with traditional drugs has made designer drugs particularly attractive to young people.
A total of 971 people have suffered from designer drug poisoning in Poland since the beginning of this year, according to the report by the state-run Chief Sanitary Inspectorate.
