  • European Comission advices extension of pension age. Report by Slawek Szefs.
As Poland looks to reform its pension system, European Commission spoke out in support of extending retirement age.

According to the EU Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion Laszlo Andor by 2060 there will be only two gainfully employed persons per each pensioner in EU member states. Faced with huge deficits within their pension systems many EU countries, including Poland, look to introduce reforms. Today, the European Commission has weighted in on extending pension age in order to address changes in the average life expectancies.

Polish government prepares to launch political consultation for proposed legislation placing the retirement age at 67. Our reporter Slawek Szefs looks into the EU and governmental propositions, and talks to professor Krystyna Iglicka, demographic and labor market expert from the Polish Institute of International Affairs.
