According to the weather forecast, the Tatra mountain region can expect up to 30 cm (around one foot) of snow on Tuesday, with strong winds expected to reach 120 km/h.
TOPR rescuer Andrzej Maciata told Polish Radio Kraków that there may be a greater danger of an avalanche as a result.
Blustery winds have already forced the cable car to Kasprowy Wierch and a number of chair lifts to shut down, with tempratures in the region also reaching -10 degrees Celsius. (jb)
