The final results reveal that Andrzej Duda from the opposition Law and Justice party won 34.76 percent of Sunday’s vote, while incumbent president Bronisław Komorowski garnered 33.77 percent of the ballot.

In third place, rock musician and independent candidate Paweł Kukiz gained 20.80 percent of the vote.

The final results were not released earlier on Monday due to a delay in the ballots being sent from two polling stations in London. As all votes cast abroad are counted in Warsaw, the capital’s vote count was the last to be determined.

In total, Andrzej Duda won in 28 out of 51 electoral districts, with Bronisław Komorowski winning in the remaing 23.

Duda also managed to win in all electoral districts in the Małopolska, Lublin, Podlaskie, Podkarpackie and Świętokrzyska provinces, as well as claiming majorites in Legnica, Piotrków Trybunalski, Sieradz, Skierniewice, Bielsko-Biała, Częstochowa and Konin.

The Law and Justice candidate won over 50 percent of the vote in the districts of Nowy Sącz (54.4 percent), Łomża (52.79 percent), Rzeszów (51.40 percent) and Tarnów (51.09 percent).

Meanwhile, incumbent Bronisław Komorowski won outright in all the districts of the Pomerania, Lubusz, Warmia-Masuria and Western Pomerania provinces. Komorowski also won in Wrocław, Jelenia Góra with Wałbrzych, Łódź, Katowice, Poznań, Kalisz with Leszno and surroundings, as well as Piła.

Komorowski’s best result was in Poznań, with 47.4 percent.

Voter turnout stood at 48.96 percent, and was highest in the Mazovian province with 54.91 percent, while the lowest turnout was in Warmia-Masuria, with 42.03 percent.

Meanwhile, out of 15,023,886 ballots cast, 14,898,934 were deemed valid while some 124,952 ballots were null and void. (jb)
