Footballers killed in minibus crash in Poland

Three footballers were killed and five were injured on Saturday when a lorry crashed into their minibus in south-eastern Poland.

Those who died were players from local third-division side Wólczanka Wólka Pełkińska. They were travelling to a match. The crash took place near the small town of Kolbuszowa.
"On a bend, the lorry collided with a minibus, in which eight people were travelling. Three were killed, while five who were injured were taken to hospital," said Jacek Kocan, a spokesman for the local police.
He added that the drivers of both vehicles had been sober. "The causes of the accident are being investigated.” (pk)
