Warsaw's authorities have spent PLN 6.5 million on 20 km of energy-efficient fairy lights, twice as many as last year, and some 1,300 decorations to bring festive cheer to the capital.

More streets than ever before will be adorned. Displays will be spread throughout Warsaw's centre after last year's event posed a security risk by drawing a massive crowd to just one location.

There will also be concerts, dance shows and an ice sculpture exhibit in Warsaw as the decorations are lit. They will be on show until February 2017. (vb/pk)
