Beata Szydło was speaking at a joint news conference with Interior Minister Mariusz Błaszczak, following a briefing with province governors and fire service commanders from regions affected by the gales.

"We have just received reports from seven province governors and provincial [fire service] commanders on the situation in individual provinces, and these reports show that the situation is under control," Szydło said.

She added that work was under way to repair the damage caused by the winds, combined with efforts to ensure safety wherever “the weather situation has not stabilised yet.”

Two people were killed and 12 others were injured, including five firefighters, in the wake of fierce winds that battered Poland over the weekend, officials said on Monday morning.
