Strong winds cut power, topple trees in southern Poland

Some 26,000 households were without electricity in Poland on Monday morning in the wake of strong winds combined with heavy snowfall that hit the country’s southern regions over the weekend.

Firefighters were called out more than 300 times, chiefly in Śląskie, Małopolskie and Podkarpackie provinces in the south of the country, according to a spokesman for the State Fire Service, Paweł Frątczak.
Winds blowing at speeds of 130 kilometres per hour toppled trees, damaged power lines and ripped roofs off buildings.
One person was injured after a tree fell on a car in a village in the southeastern Podkarpackie province, Polish Radio's IAR news agency reported.
