Warsaw airport hits all-time record

Warsaw’s international Chopin Airport has handled 15.5 million passengers so far this year, an all-time record and a marked improvement on 2016, when 12.8 million people used the airport.

The airport officially welcomed its 15.5 millionth passenger on Thursday afternoon.
The passenger, Paweł Dobosz, arrived in Warsaw on a LOT Polish Airlines flight from Toronto. He received an invitation to the airport’s VIP lounge and a free business class ticket on a flight from Warsaw to Dubrovnik, Croatia, a new route that LOT launches in May.
Chopin Airport spokesman Hubert Wojciechowski has said that 2017 has seen a marked increase in the number of transit passengers, a fact highlighting Warsaw’s growing role as a hub airport.
This year has also been a good year for LOT Polish Airlines. Poland’s national carrier hopes to handle 6.8 million passengers by the end of the year. The target for 2020 is 10 million, twice the number in 2015. (mk/gs)
