New deputy defence ministers appointed in Poland

Sebastian Chwałek and Marek Łapiński have taken over as Poland’s new deputy defence ministers, officials announced on Monday.

Meanwhile, Bartosz Kownacki, Dominik Smyrgała and Bartłomiej Grabski have all been dismissed from their posts as deputy defence ministers, the country’s defence ministry said in a statement.
It added that Chwałek's job would be to oversee efforts to modernise Poland’s armed forces and that he would also be responsible for the military health service and defence sector companies.
Łapiński will be responsible for the defence strategy and budget as well as social issues, according to the ministry.
A third deputy defence minister, Tomasz Zdzikot, who was appointed last Monday, is tasked with overseeing legal issues, information and communication technology, military infrastructure and higher military education, the ministry also said.
Yet another deputy defence minister, Tomasz Szatkowski, stays on to supervise international issues, the ministry added.
In early January, former Interior Minister Mariusz Błaszczak took over as Poland's new defence minister, replacing Antoni Macierewicz, in a sweeping Cabinet reshuffle.
