PM promises to bring cleaner air to Poland

Poland's prime minister on Thursday said his government would make every effort to drive down pollution in a bid to leave a legacy of cleaner air to new generations of Poles.

“We want to pass on to our children a country that is in better condition [than we found it], and this also means a Poland with cleaner air,” Mateusz Morawiecki said.
He also argued that his conservative government was the first Polish administration since the fall of communism in 1989 that was determined to deal with the problem of smog and “to restore clean air to Poland.”
“We treat this problem extremely seriously," Morawiecki declared.
He was speaking ahead of a meeting by a special team that coordinates his government’s efforts to combat smog as part of a National Air Protection Programme.
After taking office in December, Morawiecki declared that tackling air pollution, which is estimated to kill some 50,000 people a year in Poland, would be one of his government’s priorities.
