The Anakonda-18 drills were expected to be the largest military exercises in the country this year, bringing together troops from Poland and nine other NATO member states.
Soldiers were expected to practice defence tasks such as recognition of and response to hybrid threats, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency has reported.
About 12,500 troops were gearing up to train on exercise sites across Poland and a further 5,000 were slated to conduct drills in neighbouring Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.
The Anakonda exercises are held every two years.
This year’s drills will run until December 6.
