The Tatra Volunteer Rescue Service (TOPR) on Tuesday warned hikers that trails in the southern mountain range were covered with a thick layer of fresh snow, with deep drifts forming in places.
The avalanche risk level has been raised from low to moderate amid continuing snowfall, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.
Meanwhile, Poland’s Mountain Volunteer Rescue Service (GOPR) has warned of a moderate avalanche danger in the country’s southwestern Karkonosze range, the IAR news agency reported.
Many Poles have headed to the mountains for the Yuletide holidays and New Year's, encouraged by fine skiing conditions, broadcaster TVP Info reported on Wednesday.
