Polish Catholic bishops on Wednesday hit out at a pro-LGBT declaration endorsed by the mayor of Warsaw, and claimed sex education which reflects gender identity could deprave children.
Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski last month signed a declaration that sets out plans to introduce sex education and anti-discrimination lessons in Warsaw schools.
The so-called LGBT Plus declaration is based on World Health Organisation guidelines.
Polish bishops issued a statement saying they support parents battling to protect children against the "depravation proposed by the WHO," public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.
They slammed what they described as a “violation of the child's psyche.”
The leaders of Poland’s Protestant churches earlier this week published an open letter lambasting the LGBT declaration signed by the Warsaw mayor.
