Poland’s state-run Central Examination Board (CKE) received a warning from the Central Bureau of Police Investigation (CBŚP) that attempts were being made to disrupt the tests.

122 schools received hoax bomb alerts, one school was evacuated and the exam postponed until June, CKE said in a statement.

"Directors of some Polish schools received e-mails containing warnings about an explosion or that a bomb or a container with toxic gas was planted," said the director of CKE.

State news agency PAP reported that all of Monday’s exams started despite the alert, though some were delayed by up to an hour.

Students across Poland began their matura exams on Monday morning. The results will be crucial in securing a place at university.

Some 270,000 candidates started the exams, with Polish literature as the first subject.

Poland’s matura school leaving exams are a rite of passage and a test that determines teenagers’ future to a large degree.
